Madagascar Photo Gallery: Tamatave (Toamasina)

Tamatave (Toamasina) is the capital of the Atsinanana Region of Madagascar's east coast and is a major seaport. The name means "salty". During the French rule, the city was the chief port for the capital due to its spacious harbor and is still the main seaport for international shipping. It is the railhead for the line to Antananarivo and the northern end of the Canal des Pangalanes.
