Tunichates (ascidians) or sea squirts have a tough outer "tunic" made of polysaccheride cellulose. In some colonial species the tunics of adjacent animals are fused. They feed by taking in water through the oral syphon. After flushing through the mucus-covered gill slits the water exits through the atrial syphon.
