The Bernardo Unit of the Ladd S. Gordon Waterfowl Complex, south of Belen, hosts tens of thousands of migrating sandhill cranes and snow geese in the winter. In the last five years or so Bernardo has attracted more sandhill cranes and snow geese resident during the winter than Bosque del Apache.
