Puffers (Tetradontidae) are marine and estuary fish and include pufferfish, puffers, balloonfish, blowfish, bubblefish, globefish, swellfish, toadfish, toadies, honey toads, sugar toads, and sea squab. They are related to porcupinefish, which have large external spines in place of the thinner, hidden spines which are only visible when the fish has puffed up. Most are toxic. Eighteen species are found in the Maldives.
