Ecuador Photo Gallery: Ingapirca

We visited Ecuador in November, 2019.

Ingapirca is the largest known Inca ruins and best-preserved archeological site in Ecuador. The most significant building is the temple of the Sun, an elliptically-shaped building built around a large rock. The castle complex is of Canari-Inca origin. The site was originally used by the Canari people as an observatory and was later taken over by the Inca during the 15th century as a military stronghold. The conquering Spanish carted away much of the stonework to build nearby cities.
