Kazanlak Photo Gallery

The Rose Valley (Rozova Dolina) is just south of the Balkan Mountains. It is famous for its rose-growing industry, producing about half of the world's rose oil, made form damascene roses. The rose-blooming season had ended before our visit. Zazanlak, the Valley of the Thracian kings, called Seuthopolis in Thracian times, is in Stara Zagora Province at the foot of the Balkan Mountains at the eastern end of the Rose Valley

The Thracian tomb of Kazanlak is a narrow corrider and a vaulted brickwork beehive tomb, both decorated with murals showing a Thracian couple at a ritual funeral feast. It is part of a large royal necropolis near Seuthopolis. To preserve its frescoes, the actual tomb is not open to the public. The site you can visit is an exact replica.

Goliama Kosmatka, the symbolic temple-tomb of Seuthes III, is a large intact Thracian mausoleum from the 5th century BCE. When discovered it contained a large treasure of silver, gold, and bronze objects.
