Vermont Photo Gallery: Goodsell Ridge

The Chazy Fossil Reef, 480 million years old (from the Ordovician Period), originally stretched more than a thousand miles, from Quebec and Newfoundland to Tennessee. Exposed limestone reef remnants are visible on Isle la Motte and on Valcour Island. The Goodsell Ridge has the younger reef formations. Older rock is found further south on the island.
