Philippines Photo Gallery: Anilao seahorses and pipefish

We took an underwater photography trip to the Philippines in December 2016.

Pipefish look like straight-bodied seahorses with tiny mouths. The snout is a long tube ending in a narrow and small mouth which opens upward and is toothless.

Pygmy pipehorses have a prehensile tail, a fully-enclosed brood pouch, a short head and snout, and no caudal fin.

Pygmy seahorses have fused jaws that suck food into tubular mouths. They are found in southeast Asia and the Coral Triangle area. They spend their entire lives on a single gorgonium coral.
