The National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak is in the village of Sunspot in the Sacramento Mountains, at 9200', 4500' above nearby Alamagordo, which lies in the Tularosa Basin. From the peak you can see across the basin all the way to White Sands and beyond. The Dunn Solar Telescope is the premier U.S. facility for high-resolution optical solar physics. It has an aperture of 76 cm and an evacuated light path.
