Cloudcroft

Cloudcroft was founded as a logging town to provide railroad ties for the El Paso and Northeastern Railroad in the Tularosa Valley. It is now a recreation center at the summit of the Sacramento Mountains, home to the Lincoln National Forest. Southern Pacific Railroad ran a spur from Alamagordo to the timber lands of the Sacramento Mountains, known as the Cloud-Climbing Railroad. One large trestle remains.
