Driving south cross country into increasingly barren, empty land from Manama brings you to the site of what is reported to be the biblical Tree of Life. It is a huge, lush, lonely, acacia-like tree, apparently fed by a deep underground spring, many miles from the next nearest tree.
The large herd of camels in the area turned out to be the emir's own breeding herd.
The camel keeper insisted that Paul ride one bareback.
